For the last six years, we at Covenant Baptist Church have had the privilege of serving our King Jesus in the small town of Lucas, Kansas.  It is a small congregation that has varied over the years in number between 6 and 15.  The population is around 500 and there are four other “churches” in this village-sized town.  Several of our people come from out of town at this time (about half of the people).  So, we consider ourselves not just a church in this village, but also an area church.  With the Lord’s help, we will continue as a witness for the Reformed and Baptist message to those who are lost around us.

Our Convictions

Sanctify them through thy truth; thy word is truth.  John 17:17 (KJV)

We believe that God’s Holy Word is infallible, as established in the Old Testament and the New Testament, and is the origin and standard for all faith and practice in Christ’s Church. We hold that Word to be both effective and sufficient for all our needs in His service. Our faith is summarized in the London Baptist Confession of 1689.

Moreover, we declare the following Reformation standards as indispensable summaries of biblical instruction.

bulletSOLA SCRIPTURA: The inerrant Scripture is the sole source of written divine revelation, which alone can bind the conscience.
bulletSOLA CHRISTUS: Our eternal salvation is achieved by the mediatorial work of Christ alone.
bulletSOLA GRATIA: In salvation we are rescued from God’s wrath by His grace alone; and that salvation is not in any sense our work.
bulletSOLA FIDE: Justification is by grace alone, through faith alone, because of Christ alone. In justification Christ’s righteousness is imputed to us as the only satisfaction of God’s perfect justice.
bulletSOLA DEO GLORIA: Because salvation is of God and has been accomplished by God, it is for God’s glory. Therefore, we must glorify Him always.

Our Purpose

The Covenant Baptist Church exists to recover, confess, and proclaim "the faith which was once [forever] delivered to the saints," as found in God’s Word, and to see that faith embodied in doctrine, worship and life.
