Our History
On Feb. 1, 1981, 24 people met at the home of Pastor Eric Lawrence for the 1st service of the Wamego Southern Baptist Chapel. They soon moved to the Northview Community Center to hold their services.
From March of 1982 to 1983, the Chapel met in the Fulmer Real Estate and Veterinary Building.
Tony Mattia became the Pastor of the Chapel in Jan. 1983. He and his family moved to Wamego in June of that year.
On May 1, 1984, the congregation voted to name their church Trinity Baptist Church.
During 1986 morning services and adult Sunday School was held at 519 Lincoln in the Masonic Hall. Sunday School was also held at IOOF hail, at Burgess Realty and in the Pastor’s living room.
Dec. 16, 1985 the church voted to purchase 2.4 acres on west highway 24 for $15,000.
Ground breaking for the new church was held on April 13, 1986. The congregation moved into their new building and it was dedicated to the Glory of God on April 26, 1987.
On Dec. 11, 1988, Trinity Baptist Church became a fully autonomous church!
More land was purchased and we currently own 4.8 acres.
Trinity Baptist Church held a mortgage burning on May 1993 and had ground breaking for the new building.
Nov. 9, 1994 Trinity Baptist Church voted to sponsor and support a mission church in Onaga, Kansas. This became the Fellowship Baptist Church.
On April 12, 1995, our church voted to help develop and support a mission church in Manhattan. This church started as a Bible study in the home of Gail and Barbara Dexter. This became the Emanuel Baptist Church.
On May 7, 1995, Trinity Baptist Church’s new building was dedicated to the service of the Lord.
On June 14, 1995, Pastor Tony recommended we sponsor Alma Baptist Church as a mission church.
On July 10, 1996, Pastor Tony recommended Trinity for watch care over a newly formed church, Providence Baptist Church in Salina.
Oct. 9, 1996 - Trinity Baptist Church voted to take on a North Topeka project as a new mission. This was the start of Soli Deo Gloria in Topeka. They later changed their name to Providence Baptist Church.
In 1997, Trinity Baptist Church voted to sponsor another church in Topeka. This is the Clay Street Baptist Church.
1999 - Trinity began sponsorship of the newly formed Covenant Baptist Chapel in Lucas, Kansas.
January 2003 - After meeting for 6 months, Lighthouse Baptist Mission began Sunday worship services the first Sunday of January and is sponsored by Trinity.
October 1st, 2008 - Lighthouse Baptist Church moved into their building in Saint George.
Presently, Trinity’s membership is 204.
